The Investor Call
A transcript of forty-one minutes in which I was asked about our TAM and I talked about onions.
Gareth, thanks for making the time. We’re excited. Why don’t you start with the problem you’re solving.
People have ideas. Then they keep having them. That’s the problem.
…Okay. And Winning Idea takes those ideas and…?
We look at them. Sometimes we print them. Once I laminated one because it was raining.
What’s the business model?
I send an invoice. If they pay, that’s the model. If they don’t pay, that’s also the model, just quieter.
Can you talk TAM? Total addressable market.
I don’t know that person. Is he on the call?
It’s not a person. It’s the size of the market you can sell into.
There’s a market behind the building. They sell onions on Thursday. I went once and bought two. I still have one.
I’m going to pause you. Who is the customer?
People who email me. A woman named Dana. Mark from the Chamber, but I think he’s mad. My dentist sent a pitch about floss and I billed him for opening it. Some moron who named his product Mint Snuff All Mint Chew (mintsnuff.com TERRIBLE website)
Traction?
I have a website. It is this one. You’re on it, if you’re reading this, which you are, unless you’re not.
Team?
There is a moth in the window. I have named him Dennis. He is not on payroll because he doesn’t believe in months. I had to explain this joke to Mark, my intern. It's because moths only live a few weeks, never a month. It also is a highbrow biology joke and a visual pun as a typo.
I think we’re going to pass, Gareth. This has been… a lot.
That’s fine. I still have the onion.
Please don’t send us a spider.
I already did. Check the follow-up. The subject line is “Deck.”
Kelly’s fund later announced a thesis in “physical AI.” I sent them a photograph of the remaining onion. No reply.
